If I’m going to achieve perfect vision in 2020, then I need to refresh my mind in order to restore my sight.
I have a tendency of moving on to the next thing. No matter how big or small, once I achieve it or get through it, I’m moving on. Take for instance, when I published my first book, The Me Disease in March of 2019. This was a life long dream of mine. But once I did it, I quickly moved on to the next thing. God did some really amazing things for me leading up to that event. If I don’t intentionally make myself slow down and relish the moments, I’ll just move right on and forget what God has done in my life.
Joshua 4 says; “When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, 2 “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, 3 and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.”
God did a miraculous thing for these people and held the waters back so they could cross over. This was the second time God had performed such a miracle as this. You would think they would remember. But as soon as they crossed over and found themselves thirsty and without water, they were grumbling again. How quickly we forget?
What miracle has God performed in your life?
I guess God knew they would soon move on to the next thing. So God instructed Joshua in an attempt to help them remember.
“So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”
I want to challenge you today to remember the amazing things that God has done in your life. I want to encourage you to refresh your memory. Write them down and date it. Place a “memorial stone” so that you will not only remember but your family in the future will remember. How you “place the stone” is up to you. It could be a real stone that you paint and date and place in your prayer garden. Maybe you write about it in a journal and date it. You might decide to share your story with a friend. Just remember and do something that will help you remember later on.
Why is it important to remember?
When we refresh our minds, we restore our sight. It is easy to forget what God has done. When your memory fades, look at the stone and remember. Or go back and read what you wrote in your journal. Just remember.
There’s an old adage that says, “hindsight is 20/20.” When we look back, we can see clearly what we couldn’t see when we were going through it. That’s the beauty of remembering. We get a fresh look at exactly what God is and has been doing in our lives.
Remembering refreshes our minds which restores our sight. And, I am bound and determined to strengthen my spiritual eyes this year.
1 Chronicles 16:8-34 NIV says; Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done…Remember the wonders he has done,... For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;…Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;…Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Lamentations 3:21-23 NIV reads;
Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
If we are going to achieve perfect vision in 2020, then we have got to start remembering! Remembering gives us hope. Remembering allows us to see a little clearer. I guess we better start remembering.
Let us pray: O Great Giver of Sight, forgive me for not remembering all the many things you have done for me. Refresh my mind and restore my sight so that I may see You in all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen. -M
