As I continue my quest for strengthening my spiritual eyes, I realize there is so much more to God than what my eyes can possibly see.
I’m a star gazer. Even though I really can’t see that far, I love looking up at a clear night’s sky. With all those twinkling little diamonds suspended in the air, I often wonder how much more is out there that I just can’t see.
The other night, I was looking up at this really bright star. I’ve seen it before. As I gazed upon it, I thought about the Magi following their star and how much hope that bright light in the night sky gave them. We all need a little hope, a little light in our darkness.
Jesus tells us in John 8:12 AMP ; “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
It has been a strange week for me, as I found myself sitting in the cancer center one afternoon with a friend that I help out from time to time. I was overwhelmed by the toboggans and pixie haircuts that sat around me. Fortunately, my companion for the day is a bright light in the night sky. With his cheerful attitude and little bits of humor, I could tell this check up didn’t bother him in the least.
However, our candid conversation couldn’t keep me from noticing all the pain and worry that sat around us in that waiting room. I wondered how much more pain was out there that I couldn’t even see. I was overwhelmed and wondered where God was. Immediately, I thought of that night sky, speckled with stars I could see, knowing there were billions more I could not.
Just because I can’t see God doesn’t mean God’s not there.
My eyes scanned the room, looking for any sign of God, hope or light. My eyes landed on a mother/daughter pair and my heart sank just a little. Reminding me of my own mother, I wanted to cry. As I continued to watch them , I noticed them whispering in each other’s ear and smiling. What I hadn’t noticed was all the while, they sat there hand in hand. That’s God.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
But God does care for us. Isn’t it amazing that the God of Everything, the same God that made the heavens and the earth, the moon and all those stars, cares for us? Luke 12 tells us that God even knows the number of hairs on our head. That’s how much God loves us.
Sometimes I see God’s love in little places like a mother and a daughter holding hands in a waiting room. And although I see God’s love all around, I wonder how much more is out there that I just can’t see.
“…because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ…”
Let us pray;
Almighty God, Creator of all that is, thank you that even in your greatness, you still know us. Thank you that even when we can’t see you, you are there. Even when we can’t feel your love, it is all around. Strengthen our spiritual eyes so that we may see you and your love in all things. In Jesus name, Amen. -M

God is the beauty in nature, and in the breathtaking architecture I have seen in all cities I’ve traveled. God is in the details and tasks I accomplish with focus (this even includes laundry)! God is a smile, laugh, or comfort I can provide my patients in my nursing career.
God has given me ‘family’ via my friend network. Even though I am single I am happy, lucky, fulfilled and loved. God has given me an inner joy that I get to share with those I encounter. This joy has not always been present so I’m relishing it’s presence daily! God has given me so many opportunities to grow and not just in age. For this journey I am grateful.
Blessings to you Melissa, I am proud to know you!
