I don’t do overwhelm!

I do not do overwhelm. Not anymore. I used to, but in this brand New Year of 2023, I decided I don’t do overwhelm. And, I have to admit, it feels pretty empowering.

When I reflect on all the needs of this world, it is easy to get overwhelmed. There is so much work to be done here. Ways to help others, including needs within our communities and even in our families. Often, I would find myself asking, “what can I do,” or “what is God calling me to do?” Looking at the world around me, the hurt, pain, homelessness, poverty and down right ugliness of this world, can be too much.

This is the muddiness of life, where nothing is as clear as it should be.  Although, I would get overwhelmed because my efforts seemed like a single pebble tossed into the lake of life, I know this is where God is calling us. These are the places He asks us to go and share His love.

These are the muddy moments of life.

Our acts of kindness, no matter how big or small, are like a pebble tossed in the lake. When we step forward in love, there is a moment of impact. God’s love ripples out of us onto those around us. That’s the difference we can make. One simple act of kindness has the power to change the world for someone else.

So the next time, you find yourself overwhelmed by how much needs to be done, remember overwhelm is just another word for anxiousness or anxiety. Turning to the scriptures always helps. Fortunately, the Bible is jammed packed with scriptures to help us with our overwhelm.

Galatians 6:9 tells us,  “let us not grow weary of doing good…”

Psalm 94:19 reads, “When the cares of my heart are many,
    your consolations cheer my soul.”

1 Peter 5:7 says, “cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus tells us Himself,  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life…,

 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Don’t under estimate your power to make a difference.

Seeking God’s kingdom is nothing more than putting God first in your life. If you remember, two weeks ago, I wrote about The One Goal that would Change your life Forever. As we develop our relationship with God, we begin wanting to share God’s Love with those around us. That’s our ripple effect.

One kind word, a tender smile, a gentle wave of your hand, and God’s love ripples out farther than you can even imagine.

God’s divine love dwells in each and everyone of us and is the life force connecting us all. Focusing on God and reading His Word means I might not be so overwhelmed and the water might not seem quite so muddy.

Let us pray;

Divine Love, reveal Yourself to each of us. Let us long to care for one another, as YOU have called us to do. Above all, may Your Will be done here as it is in Heaven. Through Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
