You aren’t going to believe this, but my husband and I started a new thing. We are biking! And we love it!
My favorite part is when I’m coasting down hill with the wind in my face. I can feel the momentum building. I envision myself balanced atop my bike, arms open wide, eyes closed, soaring down that hill in a graceful free fall.
However, the imagery in my mind doesn’t always match the reality of my life. I do love coasting down those hills. But I would never let go of my handlebars. I’m a novice.
It’s all I can do to stay upright and balanced.
The other day, we were riding along and I saw this beautiful butterfly perched upon a thick grassy spot on the the shoulder of the road. As I passed by, she fluttered up and seemed to dance alongside me. She was petite with pale yellow wings. No other markings. Intrigued by her beauty, I continued to watch. Before I knew it, my eyes were off the road and so was I. Luckily, I was able to catch myself before plummeting to the ground.
It’s important to keep your eyes on the road. Not just in biking but in life too. Here we are in the tenth month of 2019. Do you remember your goals for this year? How are you doing? Here are a few of mine;
- Cultivate a deeper relationship with God.
- Be intentional.
- Publish my 1st book.
- Lose weight.
- Be more active.
- Become debt-free.
- Read 12 books.
- Read every book in the Bible.
- Speak once a month.
I may have taken my eyes off the road.
When I published my first book, The Me Disease, in March of 2019, I began coasting downhill. It felt like a graceful free fall. Here’s the thing, with every hill you coast down, there is another hill you must climb. And climbing those hills, that’s the hard part.
As you push onward, it is imperative to keep your eyes on the road, to focus on the goal. Remember that little poem, “inch by inch, life’s a cinch” Small steps in the direction of your goal will take you there.
Small steps are really big steps.
Proverb 15 says;
- Proverb 15:19; …the path of the upright is a highway.
- Proverb 15:21; …whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.
- Proverb 15:24; The path of life leads upward…
I want to encourage you today, if you are trying to lose weight, get healthier, write a book, reduce your debt, have a deeper relationship with God, whatever it is, remember, you’ve got to keep your eyes on the road. And if you are like me, and you find yourself watching butterflies, it only takes a second to refocus your attention back wherever it needs to be.
Meet me back here next Wednesday and I’ll share the secret ingredient that will get you to the top of that hill everytime.
Let us pray; Dear Lord, thank you that we can come to you with any request, any needs, anything. Thank you that your Word tells us that you are faithful and just to hear our prayers and answer them. Today, we ask that you help us keep our eyes on the road. I pray specifically that you will help me with my goal of _______(you fill in the blank). Thank you dear Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen. -M
