New Year: Come and adore Him

With a new year comes a brand new start, a fresh beginning. A time to do things differently. But this year, as we step into this new year, let’s do things the way they used to do them. Let’s come and adore Him who gave us everything.

I always love the new year. I usually make a list, which includes some physical things, financial goals, and house clean up and clean out. The new year always comes with renewed excitement.

As a ponder these thoughts, I remember one of my favorite Christmas carols, “O Come all ye Faithful.” The part that keeps rolling around in my head is, “O Come Let us Adore Him.” With an invitation to “Come and See what God has done,” in last week’s blog, we discovered that Christmas isn’t over. It is just beginning.

This week, we will find out what it means to adore Him.

The definition of adore is;

love and respect (someone) deeply.
worship

But in order for us to to adore Jesus, love and respect Him, even worship Him, we must understand what He gave us.

Jesus gave us everything.

Matthew 2:1-2 reads, “ After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem ²and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

These kings of the East had been on the lookout for the One. Prophesies had been foretelling His arrival for centuries. They were looking, waiting, expecting. When the star shone in the night sky, they knew the King had been born. He would not become king, he was already King of us all. There is only one response when you meet the King, worship and adoration.

Matthew 2:9-11 says; “…the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. ¹⁰When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. ¹¹On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

We too should be overjoyed to meet this “King.” We should anxiously come, bring Him our gifts and bow down in worship before Him. Why don’t we? Could it be that we don’t believe He is the King? Maybe there is another king on the throne of your life? Or maybe, the story has grown old because your book is dusty.

With the new year upon us, now is the time to dust off those Bibles. Open up and read story after story of the greatest love ever told. Discover why Christ is King and what God did for us all. If you only make one resolution for this brand new year, may it be that you would come and adore Him. Make Christ the King of your life and worship Him for who He is!

Come let us adore Him…

Psalm 95:1-7 says;

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
²Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

³For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods. …

⁶Come, let us bow down in worship,

let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
⁷for he is our God…”

Let us pray;

Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Mighty God, King of kings, Immanuel, teach us to worship You, to adore You, for all You have done for us. We will praise your name forever. For you are Christ, the Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
