Set apart for a PURPOSE – Part 2

As we begin to embrace the fact that we have been set apart for a purpose, we find it is in our relationship with God that our true purpose lies. Today, we will learn how to develop that relationship so that we may do what God is asking us to do.

Last week, we learned being set apart means not being afraid of what God might be asking us to do. This is where we hear, trust and obey God. In this hearing, our relationship is being developed. Sharing God’s love with the world is part of our purpose. However, it is really hard to share something you know very little about.

There are two great ways to develop our relationship with God. One is in the written Word. Getting to know God through scripture is an excellent way to learn about God’s character and His promises. The second is through God’s spoken word. Typically not audible. More like a whisper in our souls or a thought through His Word.

As you draw into God, God will draw into you. That’s a promise.

In my book, The Me Disease, I write about two truths I have discovered through God and His Word.

“The first is this: God is drawing me and has always been drawing me into Him. The second is just as  powerful: God is sanctifying me. I thought I needed to do all the work, the discipleship, the service, even my own sanctification, as if it were dependent upon my own efforts. But it is not. The only thing I need to do is trust God and choose to participate in His work.”

When I choose to trust God, God is perfecting Christ in me. It is in the participation that I find sacredness. If there is any holiness to be found in me, it is by God and God alone. In fact, the God-image dwelling in me is what makes me holy. God is holy, therefore I am holy. There is nothing to do. The work is done. I only need to accept this truth.”

There is a relationship you were created to have. A space in your soul that can only be filled by the Love of God. As we embrace the idea that God created us for relationship with Him, things begin to change. As you spend time with God through His Word, listening and prayer, God transforms us.

If you feel far from God, who moved? Because God didn’t.

As you turn to God, you do not find judgement and condemnation. You find love. Because God is love. James 4:8 reads, ‘Draw into God and God will draw into you.” As you press into God, you discover brand new things about God and yourself. However, with God, there is always more love.

Today, if you feel something is not quite right with your relationship with God, if you aren’t sure what your purpose is or what you have been created for, turn to God. Open your Bible and read the Word. Pause and listen for what God might be whispering to your heart. As you listen, I am sure you will find God’s great big love for you.

Let us pray,

Oh Heavenly Father, draw into us and fill us with your Love. Forgive us for not caring about our relationship with You. Thank you for loving us even when we haven’t loved you. Help us embrace our relationship with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

P.S. For those who comment each week, thank you. Thank you for those who forward this message out to your friends and family. And, thank you for those who share my blogs on Facebook. You have no idea how much it means to me to know that you read my blogs each week. I hope you find the love of God in each and every one of them. Until next time, you have been set apart for a purpose. That purpose is to have a relationship with God. Do you have that relationship? -M
