Trust and Obey Part 2; and how Jesus shows us the way

trustA couple of months ago I wrote a blog on Trust and Obey.  I talked about my own lessons of learning to be obedient to what God is calling me to do.  I believe every day I wake up, I have the opportunity to practice trusting God.  Whether I feel little nudges or hear clear messages, God speaks to me and I have an opportunity to respond.  I think you have the same opportunity.  The great thing is God did not leave us to learn these lessons on our own.  God gave us not only his WORD, but HIS Son to show us the way.  We just need to practice hearing God, trusting God and obeying God.

As I read through the book of John, I see Jesus practicing this “trust and obey’ everywhere.  Jesus shows us miracle after miracle, all the while breaking down the political and religious stigmas of his time.  God in flesh, being all that God is and all that we are, came to live among us.  Choosing to be just like us.   God chose flesh.  He is all the power of God Himself wrapped up in skin.   John 1:14 says, “the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory…”    Jesus is our Emmanuel and shows us what our relationship with God can look like.

Every miracle Jesus performs is an act of obedience to God.  Jesus could have done all those miracles, own his own in his own flesh.  But he did not.  He modeled for us the way.  Every time he acted, he did so on behalf of God.  He paused, listened and obeyed, often pointing out that this was not about him but for God’s glory.  He is teaching us.   In John 8:28-30.  Jesus says, “… I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me”   He’s reminding us.   And John 8:54, The New Living Translation, Jesus answered, “If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me.”  trust

We too can experience this glory of God and Jesus tells us how.  In John 11:40 Amplified, Jesus says, “Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?”  Jesus, being all that God is, came to live with us and be us.  We have all the stories.  As I read though the book of John today, I see Jesus in a new way.  Obedient in all of his efforts.  He took his instructions from the Father and gave us those same instructions.  Jesus says, “Don’t make it about yourself, that doesn’t count.  Just believe and rely on me and you will see the glory of God.” God has purpose in everything God does through us.  When we take the time to listen to where God may be leading us, to be obedient to what God has called us, we can participate in bringing that Glory of God here to this place, in this moment.  How often I forget.

Dear Lord, forgive me for moving about in my own flesh, making it more about me than about YOU.  Teach me to pause and hear your voice clearly.  Show me how to trust you fully and to be obedient to whatever you call me to do for YOU  today.  Thank you for allowing me to bring your Glory to this place.  In Jesus name, Amen. -M
