Trust and Obey; Part 2

Every day I wake up, I have the opportunity to practice trusting God. And so do you. Whether it is a little nudge or maybe a clear message, God is always speaking, leading and guiding us. We have the opportunity to respond. We get to participate in this amazing work here on earth. Today, we are going to dive in on what it means to trust and obey and why it is so important.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog on Trust and Obey; Part 1.  I have actually written several blogs on trusting, maybe because it is so hard to do. The great thing is, God did not leave us to learn these lessons on our own. God gave us not only His Word, but also His Son to show us the way. As we look to both, let’s begin to practice hearing, trusting, and obeying God.

The book of John is one of my favorites. Probably because we get a little closer look at the life of Christ. Jesus shows us how to trust and obey because he practices it everywhere He goes. As God instructs and leads Him, we get to see miracle after miracle, while He breaks down the political and religious stigmas of his time. God in flesh, being all that He is and all that we are, came to live among us.  Choosing to be just like us, deciding to trust and obey. His participation changes everything, saves us and glorifies God.

John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 2:11 tells us that through Jesus’ miracles, the disciples put their faith in Him. They believed in Him. They trusted Him.

Every miracle Jesus performs is an act of obedience to God. Even His relationship with His disciples was obedience. John’s gospel shows us miracle after miracle and Jesus could have done all those own His own, but He did not. He modeled an obedient relationship with the Father, showing us the way. Every time He acted, He did so on behalf of God.

He paused, prayed, listened and obeyed, often pointing out this was not about Him but for God’s glory.

In John 8:28-30.  Jesus says, “… I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me”

In the  NLT version of John 8:54, Jesus states, “If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me.”  trust

We too can experience this glory of God and Jesus tells us how.

The glory of God is all around us and when we choose to trust and obey, we experience that glory.

In John 11:40 Amplified, Jesus says, “Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?”

This is an act of trust. Believing and relying is trusting. We are fortunate, because we have all the stories of Jesus. As you read through the the book of John, I want you to see Jesus in a whole new way.  Obedient in everything He does. He took his instructions from the Father and gave us those same ones.  Jesus says, “Don’t make it about yourself. That doesn’t count.  Just believe and rely on me and you will see the glory of God.”

Here’s the crazy part, He trusted and obeyed God. Out of obedience, He did it for God. But in the end, He did it for us. Shouldn’t we do it for Him?

“Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey.”

Let us pray;

Dear Lord, thank you for sending your Son to show us the way. Forgive me when I don’t trust You. Forgive me when I am not obedient. Teach me to trust You fully. Show me how to be obedient to whatever you call me to do for You today. Thank you for allowing me to participate in Your Glory. In Jesus name, Amen.
