Who does God say you are?

Who does God say you are? Have you ever thought about it? Sometimes the world and those around us will tell us who we are. But, it is important to remember who God says we are. Today, we are going to remember.

A few years back, before the pandemic, I found myself sitting in a church service, without my family, listening to the message. Just me and the rest of the congregation. It probably was not two minutes into the sermon, when the pastor said, “You have a God given name. Who is God calling you?” Immediately, I heard God speak to my heart, saying, ” I am calling you beautiful.” It was so startling and so clear, I had to grab my journal out of my purse and write it down.

“I am calling you beautiful.”

Much later in his message, as he began to wrap things up, he stood before us and announced, “God told someone here today who they are. God said, ‘I am calling you beautiful.” I was shocked!

Upon hearing his words, the same words God had already said to me, my pulse began to quicken. He continued, “And, I want you to come up here and claim your God given name.” By this time, my heart was racing. What was I going to do? I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

I glanced at my journal, just to make sure those were the same words. And as I re-read the words God had spoken to me, “I am calling you beautiful,” I knew to not go up would be a direct act of disobedience to God. With heart racing and hands shaking, I stood and made my way to the front of the sanctuary, claiming my God-given name in front of God and 200 people.

So who does God say you are?

What is your God given name?

Who is God calling you? Not who the world says you are. Not even who you say you are. But who does God say you are?

Isaiah 62:2 from the Message says,

You’ll get a brand-new name
straight from the mouth of God.”

If you do not know who God says you are, here are a few things you can do;

  1. Go before the Lord and ask God who you are.
  2. Trust God will tell you exactly who you are.
  3. Read scripture to discover who you are.
  4. Keep a journal and ask again.
  5. Most importantly, listen.
  6. Spend time in silence listening for who God says you are.

You are God’s Beloved.

Matthew 12:18, from the Amplified version, says,

Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen;  My Beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased;  I will put My Spirit upon HimAnd He will proclaim justice to the nations.”

This scripture is about Jesus, but He came to show us who we are in HIM and in God. This message is for us, as well. You are God’s BELOVED. Claim it for yourself today.

Merriam-Webster’s definition of ‘beloved’ is this;, “dearly loved dear to the heart.” You are dear to the heart of God. How does it make you feel? You are dearly loved by God, precious in His sight. This is who you are!

I have attached this link here for 17 scriptures on You are Who God Says You Are, Spend some time reading over them and claiming your God given name.

I have also attached a YouTube video below to help you discover who you are to God.

God loves you so much!

Let us pray,

God of great love, thank you that I am your child, chosen and beloved. And, I am who You say I am. Thank you Father God for that. May I never forget. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
