Spiritually strong

Last Monday, as I rounded the corner into my ‘writing room”, I was surprised to find my husband sitting at the computer finishing up his blog on being a good father. If you thought it was good, you weren’t the only one, check out the comments at the very bottom of the post. We had such a positive response to that blog. I want to clue you in on a little secret though, a secret I think that will make his blog that much sweeter. […]

Good Good Father

When Melissa first suggested that I write another blog, this time about being a father, I wasn’t all that interested. I mean, she’s the writer in the family, right? But over the next few days, I began thinking about what it means to be a good father. Thinking about my dad and how great of a father he was, lead me to thinking about all the amazing fathers I know. Then, I thought about God, the ultimate example of a good father. My dad was […]

Am I willing to participate in spite of my fears?

A couple of weeks ago, I spoke at a church in Greensboro, NC. I was a little out of my comfort zone, speaking from the pulpit alongside the minister. The more I focused on my fear, the more nervous I became. I had to ask myself, “Am I willing to participate in the work that God is doing in spite of my fears?.” I pushed my fear aside and stepped forward in obedience knowing that God is always with me. As Christians, we often have […]

To help not to be helped.

I just finished working at the Furniture Market, where thousands of out- of-town guests converge on our lovely city. I was hired as a “helper,” assisting a sales representative with his furniture line in a showroom. In this role, I talk to people, answer questions and place orders. It works out well for me because I love people. I really enjoy helping people. The definition of the word ‘help’ is; to make it easier for (someone) to do something by offering one’s services or resources. […]

Wonderfully and fearfully made…

Did you know that I am wonderfully and fearfully made? Did you know that you are too? As I write this blog, it happens to be my birthday. In fact, me and my husband share the same birthday week with only two days separating our special days. That means double the fun, double the cake and double the love. We don’t really exchange gifts but we always give each other cards. In the last few years, my husband started making my birthday cards. I love […]

Are you willing to go ALL IN for God?

I used to be an avid Texas Hold ‘Em player. There’s a thrill that comes with the game, especially the moment when you push your chips into the center of the table and confidently declare, “I’m all in!” Then, you wait and attempt to remain confident in the decision you made. It’s not until all cards are laid out on the table that you know if your “All In” moment was worth it or not. I’ve had other “All In” moments in my life. My […]
