Do you ever think that maybe you were created for something more? That there must be more than this job, this day, this life even?
God is always offering us something more.
Ephesians 5:1-2 reads, “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love; just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
“Live a life of love…”
This is my life verse. If you follow me on social media, you will realize, this is where my hashtag came from. It is a reminder for me to not only live my life, but to live my life with purpose. Because I was created for more.
As I reflect on this verse, I noticed it reads, “be imitators of God and live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us…” What a bold task to attempt to mirror God and live as Christ?
You might be tempted to cop out because the task seems too daunting. But God never gives us more than we can handle. If we are willing, He will show us the way and grow us in the process. Look at the scriptures. We can learn so much from Jesus Himself. He became God in the flesh and gave us a real life model for our own lives. Talk about being created for more.
The Gospel of John is one of my favorite books of the Bible. To read the stories of Jesus healing so many, like the man at the gate of Bethesda with a few words, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” A healing and an abolishment of the law all in two short sentences. There is always more to Jesus than meets the eye. But one thing holds true, His love for us never ends.
Even still, it is one thing to know the stories. But it is something entirely different to live it out. Jesus knew He was created for something more. At the early age of twelve, Jesus already knew what He had come to do. But it wasn’t until 18 years later, that He would begin fulfilling that purpose.
We have been created for something more as well. We have been created to live a life of love. To live a life as Christ loved us. That’s a mighty big task. One that could possibly change the world.
“…rooted and established in love…”
Ephesians 3:14-21 reads,
“For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
That is our prayer. Once we realize we are rooted and established in love, Christ’s power will naturally flow through us on to others. You have been created for something more. By sharing Christ’s love and participating in the work of God, you change the world around you. What a privilege to choose to participate! -M

Melissa, your prayer is so beautiful. Because we are Christians, we want others to see Jesus in us more than anything else/ I fall short when I fail to have the mind of Christ, to look through the weaknesses of others to see their need. I am hoping your new horizons are shining even when it rains.
