Holding me by my right hand

holding my handWhen was the last time you held someone’s hand?  Your spouse, your child, your friend, your mom?  There is a certain joy and comfort that comes to me when I’m walking through the wherever, holding my husband’s hand.  I feel loved and accepted.  I feel safe.  We are in it together.  And knowing that feels good.

Yesterday during my prayer time, I opted to listen to a Christian meditation to help quiet my mind.  Quieting my mind helps me hear more clearly from God.  I’ve attached the link if you’d like to give it a go.  She will lead you through it but I do suggest using your ear buds to cut down on distractions.   So often in my prayer time, I’m doing all the talking, running through my list of needs.  But in meditation, there is no talking.  Just silence and listening.  It’s a great practice but a hard one.  For me, just because my mouth isn’t opened, doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of talking going on in my head.  This is teaching me to still my body, soul and mind.

As I was doing this particular meditation, the one in the link above, I had this vision.  I could see me and God walking along a path together.  As we walked, God reached down his hand and took my hand ever so gently.   We walked on down the path, hand in hand.  I was on God’s left side.  It was beautiful. I was moved to tears.   I felt that same love, acceptance and safety that I feel with my husband except on a much deeper level.

The very next day, I decided to read from a devotional which included scripture, Jesus Calling April 20.  The scripture reference was Psalm 73:23.  “Yet I am always with you,” the psalmist writes.  “You hold me by my right hand.”  The ‘You’ is God.  OMG!  I could not believe it.  I immediately thought of my meditation the day before and how I saw God take my right hand and now God’s word is telling me the very same thing.  This is incredible.  Confirmation that God is always with me.  And not just with me,  God is with you too.  Holding your hand.  Have you ever thought about walking hand in hand with God by your side.   No matter what situation you are in, find comfort in knowing that God is walking with you.  Take this moment now and close your eyes.  Imagine God reaching down, taking your hand and walking on with you.  I hope this brings you as much comfort as it brings me.

Dear Lord, thank you for walking with us through our lives.  Thank you for your scripture that confirms to us that you aren’t only with us, you are holding our hand.  Thank you for your peace that surpasses all understanding.  Continue to grow us to the people you have called us to be.  You are amazing, God!  And we love you!  In Jesus name, Amen!  -M
