How to use your super powers?

Last week, as I prepared for a speaking engagement, the Holy Spirit prompted me with a title, scripture and message. That talk became my blog, What Is Your Super Power?. I was excited to be able to share a message I believed came from the Lord. I followed that blog with a Facebook Live  on Friday, recapping the message and encouraging you to use your super powers. I realized however, that just because I am familiar with how the Spirit works, doesn’t mean you are. The Spirit teaches me new things all the time. So I wanted to share a little more about the workings of the Spirit in my life in hopes that you will see the Spirit working in yours.

Thursday morning, I had an impromptu prayer meeting with a couple of moms at my son’s school. At the end of our prayer time, I asked if they would pray for me that night because I was speaking. One mom asked what I was speaking on and I told them, “What are your super powers”. I explained God has given us access to two super powers; prayer and the Holy Spirit. The other mom piped up in confirmation of my message with the scripture Romans 8:26-27. I knew Romans 8:28, “…God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God…,” but not so familiar with the verses prior to. I smiled and nodded, not letting on that I didn’t have a clue what she was talking about.

Later that day, I walked through the living room and my Bible seemed to be waving at me from across the room. I thought of those verses from Romans and wondered what they said. I discarded the thought and kept on with my day. Later, as I sat in front of my computer, I was reminded again of Romans 8:26-27 and thought to myself, “I really need to look up those verses”, but dismissed the nudge again.

Two days later, a friend, after viewing my Facebook Live, messaged me inquiring about ‘praying in the spirit’. She wanted to make sure she was in fact using her super powers. Immediately, I thought of Romans 8:26-27 . I recognized the Spirit was in fact trying to tell me something and I quickly googled the verses. I was overjoyed to read, “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Quickly, I forwarded the verses to my friend. The scripture and the Holy Spirit answered her question, better than I could have. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, nudging, pushing, prodding us along. Teaching us more about God and who God is in our lives.

The Spirit reminded me no less than three times that day. Had I listened, when my friend asked, I would have been ready. Fortunately for me, the Spirit was still working. As soon as she asked, the Spirit nudged me right back to the answer. God is so good.

So the next time you feel a nudge to do something, pause and ask the Spirit to confirm whatever it is. When it comes to mind again, that could be your confirmation. It’s important to know, the Spirit will nudge, but it is up to you to act. I promise you though, if you do, you will begin to recognize the Spirit at work in your life. The more you respond to the Spirit, the more you will hear from the Spirit. I don’t have all the answers in regards to the Spirit. I just know how the Spirit works in my life. And the Spirit continues to teach me new things everyday.

Let us pray: Father, Son and Holy Spirit – thank you that you are always with us, teaching us new things about who you are and who you are in our lives. Thank you that you gave us the Holy Spirit, our Companion and our Friend. Teach us more about the Holy Spirit and continue to work in us and through us, not for our glory but for yours. In Jesus Name – Amen. -M

ps – don’t forget to leave me a comment below and let me know how the Spirit has been working in your life. I love hearing from you!
